Raised in Oakland, graduated from Oakland's Tech HS in 1943
Entered the US Navy and served for 21 yrs, retiring in 1964 as Chief Petty Officer
Served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, received many medals and citations for heroic actions
After retirement from Navy, went to work at the Veterans Home in Yountville as a cook. He worked there for 15 yrs
Loved to bowl
Member of the Fleet Reserve Association and VFW Post 9300 in Napa
Survived by son Lawrence, daughters Teresa Florence & Shareen Bettencourt, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Donald, nieces & nephews
Predeceased by parents Joseph & Frances Bettencourt, brother Lawrence, killed in WWII and in whose honor Bettencourt Street in Sonoma is named, and nephew Steven.
Memorial held 3/24/07 at Duggan's Mission Chapel in Sonoma
