St. Helena-beauty of natural scenery,heathful climate,plain,honest, pleasant western country.
Property: lots range form $200 to $500 without improvements
New brick hotel in the spring.
Purchased lot 150 x 150 ft for $120-had a small cottage built ;cost of $300. Has a front parlor,bedroom and kitchen.
Wood $2.00 a cord
New streets-Main and Church
Three dry good stores,saddle shop, two blacksmiths, one waggon wright,one shoemaker, two carpenter shops, two doctor's offices, one lawyer,town hall, church and two grog shops.
Church used by the Baptist, Presbyserians & Medodists in turn.
Mr. Morton supplies gratis with vegtables
Rest of the letter composes her friend Mrs. Burnett to come vist as she and her husband will like St. Helena and the surrounding country. She is also expecting a baby and has five weeks to go when this letter was written.
Also, writes that her flowers died and there is nothing but fruit trees-apples,peaches, grapes.
